How We Help Families

At Advocates for the Whole Child, we support families throughout the special education process by providing knowledgeable guidance, strategic advocacy, and professional consultation.

Our goal is to ensure that students with disabilities receive the educational services and supports they need to succeed in school.

IEP Meeting Preparation

Preparing for an IEP meeting can be challenging. We help parents organize their concerns, understand the proposed services, and develop an effective advocacy strategy before the meeting.

IEP Meeting Advocacy

Advocates may attend IEP meetings to help ensure that:

  • Parents’ concerns are clearly communicated.

  • Educational goals are measurable and appropriate.

  • Necessary services and accommodation are discussed.

  • Students have access to the general education curriculum whenever appropriate.

Communication with School Districts

We assist families in communicating with school personnel regarding educational concerns, service requests, and clarification of special education plans.

Requests for Assessments and Services

When appropriate, advocates help families request:

  • School district assessments

  • Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs)

  • Additional supports or services for the student

Record Review and Case Strategy

We review student records, including evaluations, assessments, and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), to determine whether the current plan adequately supports the student’s needs.
